CCR5 delta 32

Artist: Emei Ma

Two large banners painted with the sequences of CCR5 and CCR5 Delta 32.

The human genome has billions of nucleotides strung together in a particular sequence.  When a mutation occurs in the sequence, even a very small one, it can profoundly affect an entire population. In the case of the CCR5 gene, 32 missing nucleotides results in HIV resistance and a potential cure for AIDS.
